Customers Interviews No. 3

Other than the initial reaction question, I decided to ask if the wait time lasts for over a day, would that effect your decision buying from my store, and my second question was whether you would prefer if the customization was done online or in-person. I am going to interview mainly guys because that’s who the brand would primarily be for, but I also would like to hear a girls opinion on the idea. In this exercise I learned that each interviewee had their own preference to whether or not they would rather design the shirt inside or online so it is obvious that I should include both in my business. I was most surprised by the differences in opinion each of the people had because I realized it would be hard to tend to everybody’s preference.

  1. Derek,

I too was surprised by peoples' opinions about the customization. Personally, I would prefer to do it online because I have all the time in the world to do it. I feel like there's more pressure in the store. It's kind of the same like if you go to Starbucks/Chipotle for the first time and you have to rush order everything as opposed to ordering food online and having it delivered to your door.

Overall, I think you had some good questions and I like that you handed them a card with your idea instead of wasting their time.

I didn't do this particular assignment, but if you have time, check out my blog:

  2. Good post. The writing information down and giving it to the interviewees was pretty smart saves both people a lot of time and probably communicated what you wanted to more clearly. The interviews were short which was nice. I like your idea but I feel like there are already some websites like this out there so you would have to bring something different to the tabe.

  3. Hi Derek,

I like your idea to be able to give people the option to customize their clothes. I noticed something about the way you asked your questions and the answers you got from it. It would seem that when you worded the question about going into the store versus doing it online, in two of the videos you gave more detail about going into the store. For example, some videos you said they could either go into the store or go online and that was the end of the question. In other interviews you said they could either go online or they could go into the store to be able to see and touch the fabrics. The latter gives the customer more reasons why they should go into the store and it seems that every time you did that the person never chose the online only option. I think posing questions that way biased your interviewee.

Other than that, your interviews went beautifully. Very well done.

I wasn't able to do this assignment myself but my business is very similar. I make apparel too. My shop can be found at www.CoiledCrown.com and I'm offering a "Make your own shirt" option this week!

  4. Hello Derek,
So I'm thinking your business is a trademark style customization store. Buy a specific style shirt and have it tailored to your exact specifications? I'm really not to clear on your idea. It would be a good if you restate what your business is for anyone like myself, who is reading your blog at a random point and not from the very first post. I'm curious how you will get the brands themselves to work with you. Companies are always protecting their trade marks and don't generally like customization of their products in ways they do not approve. Still if you can figure out a way to work with high class brands I could see this working. Your shirts would be ludicrously expensive unless you have figured out a way to keep your costs down. This is my blog.
